'King of Brands' in 1967, and also winner of the British Championship, Ron Chandler started
racing in 1958 on a Matchless G45. He won his first race in 1960 on a Matchless G50 and his
last win was in 1973 on his Rob North BSA.
He retired from racing in 1975. In 1968 Ron bought a Mk2 full-loop Seeley. He rode a Mk3 Seeley
in the1969 Senior TT finishing 6th. In 1971 Team T Mac sponsored him on a 3-cylinder 500cc Kawasaki,
and over that winter he put the Kawasaki into a Seeley frame. Ron has been associated with Colin
Seeley for many years.

The BSA Triple, to be seen at Beezumph, was built in 1972. The engine was bought from Mick Boddice
and the frame from Rob North himself. Arthur Jakeman rebuilt the engine and assembled the bike
over that winter. Its first outing was at Rouen in 1973 and he WON the race by a whisker from Tony
Jefferies on a Triumph 3. He raced the Triple on the continent in the formula 750cc races getting
some good placings. The BSA was sold in 1974, and he then rode a 4-cylinder Yamaha. For years, Ron
wondered what had happened to his Rob North, and after some considerable searching (and a bit of
help from France…) he located it in 2003 up in Scotland, bought it again.

Arthur Jakeman has recently rebuilt the engine to the same spec as it was originally (complete with
quill-drive points, the lot). TP was there to give the bike its first bump into life on an
absolutely freezing Sunday morning in February 2004.
