Beezumph 17: What's In Store.
As you can see from the logo, this year’s Beezumph, the seventeenth, has
the theme of the 1971 Match Race Series Reunion. This came about through a conversation
held at Sam Milner’s house, we were perhaps overwhelmed by the new central heating
system’s efficiency, and the intoxicating thought of another Beezumph, there were definately
no substances consumed, other than coffee!
The question was, should we try to duplicate the very successful 2007 Beezumph,
(a hard enough task for a new team of organisers), to which the answer was yes.
Next, so who are we going to ask to come and join the fun in 2008. The 1971 American Team
for the Anglo American Match Race series (as the first one was called) popped up as a great
idea, but probably somewhat impractical, given the distance etc. However we decided not to
dismiss the idea, and working along the principle of, if you don’t ask they won’t come, we did,
and they are!

I am delighted to be able to give you the news that Dick Mann, Gene Romero, Don Castro,
Don Emde and David Aldana will be attending, only Gary Nixon and Jim Rice are unable to come, this being due
to a prior committments, had we been able to make the dates work for them we certainly
would have.
Obviously to complement our American visitors, we were very keen for the British Team to come,
it’s not much of a reunion without both halves, so once again we are to be honoured by the
presence of Percy Tait, Tony Jeffries, John Cooper and Paul Smart, (as most of you will know Ray
Pickrell was the “other” British Team member who sadly passed away two years ago).

It is an understatement to say that we are excited by this year’s theme, we will have one of
the best ever line-ups of past masters in Europe on display at Cadwell on the 15/16th of August.
In addition to the two teams the new TR3OC Patron Arthur Jakeman, Mick Grant, Steve Brown,
Martin Russell, Ron Barrett, Alistair Laurie, Don Woodward, John Woodward, Bill Fannon,
Fred Swift, Judy Pickrell, Steve Jolly, Ron Chandler, Frank Perris, Tommy Robb and Mick Hemmings
are all coming.
Bill Crosby will be bringing a display from the London Motorcycle Museum, which will be well
worth a good look round.’The Professor’ George Pooley will be bringing the biggest display
of his mad creations that has ever been to Beezumph.

Next door to the Signing On and Merchandise tent, we will again have the Whine tent which
will be dispensing free tea and coffee and the odd biscuit. Last year many of you made good
use of this facility, and our Honorary Members and Guests will again be encouraged to drop
in when passing to say hello and have a brew.
It’s early days to start mentioning the bikes likely to appear, but it is safe to say that in
addition to the biggest and best display of Triples anywhere in the world, there will be a
plethora of other tasty stuff to feast your eyes upon, and again this year the sidecars will
add to the spectacle.
The basic format that has become established at Beezumph will remain much the same, with the
track action following last year’s successful programme, however, this year is special and we
want to give everyone the opportunity to see and meet all of our guests.
In later issues of Triple Echo, and the club website www.tr3oc.co.uk we will publish a
full itinerary for the two days, this will hopefully provide something for everyone.
We will be having the bike line-up and Prize Giving on Saturday night, but this year we are
going to have a Hog Roast providing the food instead of the BBQ. If the weather turns bad like
last year (which Sam insists is not going to happen), this will save an awful lot of last minute
improvisation! Club members will still be ‘serving’ the food, only the cooking will be
undertaken by a local supplier.

Also new this year will be the band for your evenings entertainment, they come highly
recommended and play the right stuff (or so I’ve been told), to round off the night.
Inevitably with the added attractions this year come extra costs to stage the event.
We will be going all out to attract a larger crowd which will hopefully be achieved through
the extra publicity our guests are already generating, both in the UK, America and on the
Continent. To further assist us we have decided to have a presence at a number of extra
classic bike shows this year, and Day Tickets will be on sale at these shows at a big
discount to the gate price.
Those of you who normally visit the Stafford show in April may want to pay particular attention
to our Club stand this year, where we will be celebrating the Trans-Atlantic theme with a
number of attractive young ladies attired in American Cow Girl outfits. They will be under
strict instructions to relieve you of the contents of your wallets, to purchase tickets of
course!
